The APICS Supply Chain Competency Model

A Guide for Professional Development in Supply Chain Careers

What does it take to succeed in a Supply Chain Career?  The skills, abilities and experiences needed for supply chain roles are complex.  Supply Chain Managers are crucial to the global economy.  They represent a unique discipline responsible for supporting the global network of delivering products and services across the entire supply chain from raw materials to end customers.  This field has evolved rapidly.  For this reason, APICS undertook a research project to identify the critical elements that make supply chain professionals successful.  The APICS Supply Chain Competency Model is the result of this study.
Todd Sabin, co-author of the APICS Supply Chain Competency Model, will provide an overview of the model. Whether you are an experienced supply chain professional, someone wanting to break into the field or a Human Resources professional responsible for hiring and developing supply chain professionals, you will learn how this powerful tool can help you.

The structure of the APICS Supply Chain Manager Competency Model follows guidelines set by the Employment and Training Administration of the United States Department of Labor.  The model outlines the skill, knowledge and abilities required to perform critical work functions through 7 levels of Competency.

The model is intended to guide:

  • Individuals considering careers in supply chain management
  • Supply professionals seeking to advance their positions
  • Human resource managers who are hiring in this fast-growing field

APICS is hosting the meeting in conjunction with ISM and James Madison University.
