Strategic Management of Resources (SMR)

4 Feb 2010 - 08:45

APICS’ Strategic Mgmt of Resources (SMR) course is coming to Hollister!

Scope: Strategic management of resources possesses a significant and increasing potential—to dramatically increase any company’s competitive position by reshaping not only its production or service processes, but its management concepts as well. Exploiting these opportunities involves virtually everyone in the organization and usually requires widespread cultural change.
SMR is the “capstone” module for the five courses contained within the Certified in Production & Resource Management (CPIM) program.

Who Should Attend? Those seeking to advance into management roles should take this course. Anyone active in the daily monitoring or implementation tasks of Production Planning, Purchasing, Logistics, or Operations control will bring home strategic choices for enterprise organization, cross-functional communication linkages, and training development initiatives for long-term Customer Service improvements. We usually recommend that the previous modules of CPIM should be taken before SMR. However, this course is also an excellent stand-alone module for existing MBAs or Managers to consider as a means of fine-tuning or honing their skills; or for existing CPIMs to obtain 30 Certification Maintenance points.

Cost: This 30-hour module is being offered Thursdays from 4PM – &PM from February 4 to April 8, 2010. Students must bring a calculator with square root function to every session. Member cost is $712 per student ($895 Non-member), including Tuition and the following materials:

  • Registration Bulletin, #09053
  • SMR Participant Guide w/Practice Questions CD-ROM #09130
  • SMR Reprints #05011
  • Text: “Crafting and Executing Strategy” #03473

Curriculum: Classes are highly interactive, with a combination of reading assignments, lecture-discussions, product demos, videos, with Midterm and Final tests. The ten sessions include:

  1. Aligning Resources with Strategic Plans
  2. Choices Affecting Operations Structure
  3. Choices Affecting Operations Infrastructure
  4. Configuring & Integrating Operating Processes
  5. Supply Chain Management
  6. Config/Integrating Design & Development, and Cost Mgmt Processes
